Electrical permits are issued by the State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry , Electrical Division. For more information call (651) 284-5026 or go visit the to MN Department of Labor and Industry License Lookup website.

Licensing requirements

Permits for electrical work are issued to electrical contractors who hold a valid electrical contractor’s license issued by the Minnesota State Board of Electricity. Tradespersons working for them must also hold an individual electrician’s license.

To get a contractor’s license, the person who applies must either hold a Class A or Class B Master Electrician’s License or employ someone who does.
