• Violation number
• Violation address, if applicable
• Appeal description
• Supporting documents or photographs

What happens when you file an appeal

After you submit an appeal:

• You will receive a confirmation email from Administrative Hearings staff.
• You may receive a follow up email or phone call if there are questions about the appeal. 

Different types of hearings are scheduled differently:

• If you appealed an administrative citation, you will receive a notice in the mail with the date, time and assigned hearing officer.
• If you appealed a special assessment or disputed a utility bill, check the assessment notice for:
  • Hearing date and time
  • Assigned hearing officer

You must file an appeal to appear at the hearing. If you appear at the hearing without filing an appeal ahead of time, we will not be able to hear your case.

Appeal by mail

To mail an appeal, follow the instructions on the:

• Administrative citation
• Notice of Intent to Assess letter
• Utility Billing mailing

Appeal in person

To submit an appeal in person, bring it to the City of Minneapolis Service Center.

Appeal your animal citation

Bring your appeal to Animal Care and Control during shelter hours, or mail it directly to the shelter.

If you are appealing a citation that was issued by Minneapolis Animal Care and Control, do not bring it to the City of Minneapolis Service Center.
