Disability insurance

Understand the long-term disability insurance available to eligible City of Minneapolis employees.

What it covers

Long-term disability helps to replace income for employees who are unable to work as a result of illness or injury. If you qualify, monthly benefits equal to 60% of base pay are payable beginning after 90 days of disability. The maximum long term disability benefit is $6,000 per month. Benefits may be reduced by other income (such as pension or Social Security payments) you receive while you are disabled.

The City pays the full cost of this benefit. If you are eligible, you are automatically enrolled for long-term disability insurance.

How to file

You, your physician, or a family member can file a disability claim by calling The Standard at 1-844-573-0232 Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm.
