Residential connections

Residential sewer connections and roof drain information.

The most common situation for single-family houses still connected to the sanitary sewer system is a downspout that drains into the sanitary sewer via a standpipe next to the foundation of the house.

Disconnecting

The usual method for disconnection in this case is to cut off the downspout, install a permanent cap on the standpipe, and allow rainwater to drain onto the lawn.
