Policy and Research

Learn about the role of the City Auditor's Policy and Research (PAR) Division and review project dashboards, policy briefings, and reports to City Council.

What we do

We provide research and consulting services to the City Council and its committees. Our goal is to support the legislative, policymaking, and oversight functions.

We support City Council by providing:

  1. Research on emerging issues and trends tied to new policy proposals
  2. Analytical support for proposals being considered
  3. Methods for conducting meaningful oversight of the City’s Administration

Policy and research dashboard

We compiled a list of council requests made to the City Auditor’s Policy and Research Division.

Research reports

Formal research reports must be initiated by a majority vote of the Committee of the Whole and cover topics being brought forward to, or reviewed by, the City Council. Reports may be accompanied by public presentations, data visualizations, or interactive data dashboards.

Policy briefings may be requested by an individual councilmember and are intended to provide preliminary research or estimates to councilmembers and staff in support of reviewing a range of options on a subject or identifying where items may align with legislative goals.
