38th Street LRT station area approved changes to primary and overlay district zoning
Background
In October 2006 the Minneapolis City Council adopted the 38th Street Station Area Plan, following an extensive neighborhood planning process. The plan outlines a vision for transit-oriented development near the 38th Street LRT station area. A key component of realizing the vision is to ensure that the city’s zoning code, which regulates land use and development, is compatible with the adopted plan. This means analyzing the existing zoning near the station and recommending changes that would allow for the type of development envisioned in the plan. The Community Planning and Economic Development department (CPED) has conducted this analysis for the portion of the station area west of Hiawatha Avenue, and the changes were approved by the Minneapolis City Council on May 2, 2008
