What is it

During Welcoming Week, we:

  • Connect neighbors of all backgrounds
  • Create welcoming spaces
  • Share information and resources about becoming a US citizen

When

Welcoming Week falls during the week of Citizenship Day every year.

  • Welcoming Week is Sept. 12-21, 2025
  • Citizenship Day is Sept. 17

Why

The City of Minneapolis is part of a network called Welcoming America. Welcoming cities believe that when everyone feels like they belong, we all benefit. As a welcoming city, we host annual events for Welcoming Week.

City Council resolution

Join us as the Minneapolis City Council, recognizes Welcoming Week with a resolution.

Litter pickup and celebration

Start Welcoming Week 2025 by giving back! Volunteers will help clean up the Lake and Hiawatha area, followed by a community celebration with light refreshments at noon.

Welcoming Week job fair

Connect with local employers and learn about job opportunities and workforce resources. Hmong, Dari, Pashto, Somali and Spanish language interpreters available.

Join this interactive, community-building event. It will feature Story Stich: a storytelling game. Share stories for more inclusive, connected communities.

Citizenship workshop

This free workshop will guide you through the citizenship process. Join a citizenship readiness presentation, get a naturalization screening, and connect to free legal services.
