Use this tool to see if a property is condemned and requires a code compliance inspection. Look for a "Condemned CC required" parcel flag.

Certificate of Code Compliance

You cannot buy, sell or work on a condemned building in Minneapolis until is has a Certificate of Code Compliance.

The certificate is proof the building:

  • Was inspected for code compliance
  • Was repaired to comply with code requirements
  • Passed a final inspection
  • Is safe to be sold or occupied

Occupying a condemned property

No people or animals, including the owner, can live or work in a condemned property while it is being rehabbed.

You must meet certain requirements before you can make repairs to, list, sell, buy or resell a condemned property.

Listing and selling

Before listing

  • Request and complete a property inspection
  • Receive repair orders from the inspector

Before selling

  • Complete the repairs
  • Passed a final property inspection
  • Have a Certificate of Code Compliance

Before reselling

  • A Certificate of Code Compliance is only good for one sale.
  • The inspection process needs to be repeated for future sales.

Buying and repairing

Before buying

  • Potential buyers can get a status of inspection and repairs from listing agents.

Before you start work on the property

You cannot begin work on the property until:

  • You've received repair orders
  • Paid the fees
  • Have the required construction permits
