Overview
A Certificate of Occupancy (CoO) gives permission for a building or structure to be used or occupied by the public. It is valid:
- For the life of the building, or
- Until there is a change in building use or occupancy.
Inspection requirements
The building or structure must pass:
- All on-site construction inspections like mechanical and plumbing
- A final CoO inspection
How it works
- You must request the final CoO inspection when the building is ready to be occupied.
- The building official:
-
Conducts the inspection.
-
Confirms there are no violations of the code or other laws enforced by the Department of Building Safety.
