Effective Monday, August 10, 2020, the City of Minneapolis no longer accepts, process, issues or inspects new permit submittals for radon mitigation systems in the City of Minneapolis. Due to the resolution of recent legal challenges to State of Minnesota Department of Health requirements, radon mitigation permits must now be requested from the State of Minnesota Health Department. Any open permits issued from the City of Minneapolis prior to August 10, 2020 will need to obtain final inspections from city inspection staff. For all new residential construction and for additions to residential construction where a radon mitigation system is currently installed, these radon systems will continue to be reviewed and inspected as part of the overall building permit issued for the project – no additional mechanical permit is required. Visit the Minnesota Department of Health websites for more information on Radon in Homes, Radon Laws, Rules and Standards, and Licensing for Radon Professionals. |
Online building, plumbing and mechanical permits are available for licensed contractors for 1 and 2 family dwelling unit properties. Online street use permits are available on all properties. Contractors can apply, pay and receive several simple (no plan or site review required permits using the web). Permits may also be purchased in person at the City of Minneapolis Service Center located at the Public Service Building 505 Fourth Ave. S., Skyway level. If you have questions and are located within Minneapolis call 3-1-1, if you are outside of the City, call 612-673-3000.
