Hennepin County Library Special Collection department

The Special Collections Department at the Downtown Minneapolis branch of the Hennepin County Public Library is also a good source for doing historical research on City properties.

Their collection includes:

  • Historical permit indexes
  • Lot surveys
  • House design information
  • Neighborhood historical information
  • Photographs
  • Building histories

The Hennepin County Public Library also has historical maps and plat books of Minneapolis and the surrounding area available online. These colorful maps are a great resource for anyone doing historical research on Minneapolis properties and structures.

The Hennepin County Library Special Collection Department asks that you contact them at least one day ahead of time to make an appointment if you have a reference question or a research project.
