Taxi drivers

The City requires taxi drivers to have a license.

Definition

Taxi drivers in Minneapolis must have:

  • A Minnesota or Wisconsin driver’s license 
  • A good driving record 
  • At least one year of driving experience

Taxi drivers in Minneapolis must be:

  • At least 18 years old 
  • Able to read, write and speak English 
  • Knowledgeable about the taxi laws and streets in Minneapolis

Taxi drivers cannot have alcohol or drug addiction.

Drivers must send us a five-year background report.
