Fire special event permit

Events that need this permit

  • Fireworks displays (indoor and outdoor)
  • Exhibits and trade shows
  • Tents, canopies or similar structures
  • Amusement or temporary use of buildings
  • Bonfire
  • Controlled burn
  • Open flame or candles in crowds
  • Using propane temporarily

Step 1

Submit your application

Download the application

Follow the instructions on the application. You can meet with a customer service representative to learn more about the requirements and submit your application in person.

Step 2

Gather additional information

You may need to submit additional details specific to your event. After we process your application, we’ll send you an email invitation to your ProjectDox project with instructions on how to upload additional documents if needed.

Tents or similar structures Proof of flame-resistant treatment
Fireworks displays and pyrotechnics

Certificate of Public Liability Insurance, firework shooter's License and Minnesota license, a site plan, and map of the stage or riser

Step 3

Application review

We'll review your application. You can expect to hear from us in 15 business days.

Step 4

Pay the fee

You can pay:

  • In person at the Minneapolis Service Center
  • Mail your payment to:

Make checks payable to Minneapolis Finance Department.
