Know your rights and resources

Find resources to learn your immigration rights and responsibilities. These resources do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the City of Minneapolis. This is not legal advice. For legal advice, contact a lawyer.

Welcoming city

Minneapolis is a welcoming city. We believe that when everyone feels like they belong, we all benefit.

Regardless of immigration status, we want our city to be:

  • Safe
  • Respectful
  • Inclusive

Separation ordinance

Minneapolis has a separation ordinance. When you come to the City for help, the ordinance says that City employees cannot:

  • Ask about your citizenship or immigration status
  • Ask you for documents to prove your immigration status
  • Use any knowledge of your status to enforce immigration laws

Read the ordinance
