You can apply for a facilities use permit to use a City-owned lot for a private or community event.

Definition

You can hold temporary community and private events on City-owned lots, including:

  • Parking lots for occupied or unoccupied buildings
  • Vacant lots

Types of events

We accept applications for many uses, including:

  • Overflow parking
  • Family or community events with:
    • Picnic tables, booths and tents
    • Food and beverages
    • Entertainment
  • Community service events like food distribution

Each facility use permit is up to seven days.

How to identify a City-owned lot

If there a a property you want to use for your event, you can enter the address in one of these tools to find out who owns the property.

We accept applications to use property owned by City of Minneapolis CPED.

 

How to get a permit

Submit the following items at least one week before your proposed event.

  • Application for Facilities Use Permit
  • Application fee and damage deposit
  • Applicable licenses and insurance certificates

We process applications in the order we receive them.

Fee and deposit amounts

  • Daily fees vary by facility
  • Damage deposits range from $500 to $1,000

Insurance, licenses and permits

Certificates of insurance

  • We require a certificate of commercial general liability insurance with combined single limits not less that $2,000,000.
  • If you are serving alcohol, we also require a certificate of liquor liability insurance with combined single limits not less that $2,000,000.
