Block Leaders: Register Your Event and/or Closing Down Your Street/Alley for Minneapolis NNO - September 15, 2020!
National Night Out is a celebration of police-community partnerships! Block Leaders signed up through their Crime Prevention Specialists can register an NNO event and apply to close a street/alley is a single online process. Although the form will plug in the original date for this year which was August 4th, your registration will be honored for September 15th. If you want to do another date, please specify this at the beginning of the "Activities" field of your registration.
Note: Not every street can be blocked off depending on the traffic flow. Generally, bus routes and high traffic streets cannot be used for block events. Most blocks on bus routes or with traffic lights at one end, may have a side street that can be blocked off.
You will need permission of 75% of your neighbors to be approved for street closure —keep their names and addresses handy in the event your permit application needs to be reviewed.
If you register by July 21 you can block your street for free. If you register from July 22 through July 27, there is a $100 fee. You will not be able to block off your street if registering after July 27. This is still the case even though we have re-scheduled NNO in Minneapolis due to the pandemic.
It is free to participate in National Night Out. We urge all participants to follow CDC guidelines for gatherings, and be creative in adhering to social distancing recommendations.
Registration also places you on the official list of NNO events that gets distributed to police and other departments. We send dozens of teams of officers, supervisors, and command staff to attend as many events as possible. However, there’s no guarantee police will be able to visit your event.
