Hewitt’s impressive educational background, studying at the University of Minnesota, M.I.T., and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, inspired him to introduce many of the romantic period revival styles to Minneapolis. Hewitt’s partnership with Edwin Brown, a Harvard graduate who became the president of the Minneapolis chapter of the Minnesota Society of Architects, granted them many prominent commissions, especially in the Steven’s Square neighborhood.
