Minneapolis tracks greenhouse gas emissions and reductions within the City

Minneapolis tracks greenhouse gas emissions and reductions

Minneapolis commits to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Using 2006 data, our goals are to reduce GHGs by:
  • 15% by 2015
  • 30% by 2025
  • 80% by 2050
 
Minneapolis GHG emissions have decreased 19% since 2006. This exceeded the 2015 goal of 15% reduction.
 
 
From 2018 to 2019, total GHG emissions decreased 1.8%. Electricity and natural gas reduced emissions while transportation, solid waste, and wastewater increased.
 

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Protocol

A baseline and protocol to measure results is an important part of this initiative. We updated the method for community greenhouse gas emissions for the 2015 inventory. We will post another update protocol soon.
