Discover what it's like to work as a firefighter and EMT

We are excited to welcome a new generation of firefighters from out community. If you take part in our Pathways and Explorers programs, you will be able to see if this is a career that interests you.

EMS Pathways

This is for students with a high interest in science and helping others. It offers:

  • A pathway to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the end of your senior year at Roosevelt or North High School.
  • A chance to partner with the MPLS Fire Department and Hennepin Healthcare (formerly HCMC) to gain experience, earn college credits and explore the EMT career possibilities.

Here's how it works.

  • You take an Emergency Medical Responder class during the Spring of your junior year.
  • You are invited to join the Minneapolis Fire Department Explorers group and be mentored by Fire Fighters who will help you to work towards success in the EMT program.

Watch for 2022 registration details.

Fire Explorers

This program introduces 14- to 21-year-olds to the fire service. This program is currently on hold due to COVID-19.
