Shovel out your garbage, recycling, and organics recycling carts

You want your garbage gone regardless of the season. Unfortunately, garbage, recycling and organics recycling carts get stuck in snow or ice and are hard to move increasing the potential for worker injuries. Sometimes carts can not be emptied at all.

Shoveling requirements

Snow Cart - Casper1. Clear a path 36" (3 feet) wide from your garbage, recycling and organics carts to the alley or street.  Make sure they can be moved freely.  Please do not shovel snow from around your carts into the alley as it can make collection difficult for our crews, it makes maneuvering alleys difficult for you and your neighbors, and it is not allowed per City ordinance 225.680

2. Make sure your garbage, recycling and organics carts are shoveled out the night before your collection day.

3. A heavy snowfall within 48 hours of your garbage collection day may make it impossible to shovel out in time. We understand, but please make sure your cart is shoveled out by the following collection day.

4. If your garbage, recycling or organics carts are stuck in snow and ice on your collection day, and it has not snowed or stormed within 48 hours, we will shovel out your carts so your garbage, recycling and organics can be collected. Your account will be charged a $30 fee per cart shoveled for this service.

If you have curb pickup

If your garbage and recycling is picked up at the curb, please do not block sidewalks with garbage and recycling carts. A clear path between the carts/bins and the street must be available on collection day.

Shoveling assistance

If you are unable to shovel the path around your carts, you will need to hire someone to shovel for you. Check the local yellow pages under "Snow Removal Services", or some community organizations can shovel out garbage carts for a fee. It will be cheaper than Solid Waste & Recycling shoveling then out.
