Near North Safe Routes to School
In 2022, the Minneapolis Public Works Department plans to improve 0.98 miles of 16th Ave N between Queen Ave N and Aldrich Ave N. Project improvements will consist of traffic calming and bicycle and pedestrian improvements. The corridor is designated as a bicycle boulevard in the City’s 2011 Bicycle Master Plan. This means encouraging bicycle use and safety along the corridor will be a priority of this project.
The goals of this project include:
- Improves safety for all users of 16th Ave N
- Connects schools and parks along the corridor
- Provides a substantial investment and transportation benefit in a community that is above the regional average for population in poverty or population of color
Preliminary design & engagement of the project
Final design of the project is anticipated.

This segment of 26th Ave N is a local residential street serving the Near North and Willard Hay neighborhoods of Minneapolis. The adjacent land use is primarily residential in character, with some park land and educational uses.
