Tips for Address Searches

Use the U. S. Postal Service format

The address search service works best when you enter your address using the United States Postal Service (USPS) preferred format. Abbreviations of Street Type and Direction are okay to use.

Can’t find your address?

If you’ve entered a valid Minneapolis address but the system returns a message stating there were no results for your search, try one of the following modifications:

Note: When you make the search less specific, you could receive more than one possible match for your address. Select the one that best matches the address you are looking for.

Address may not be available to the system

There’s a chance that the address you are trying to locate is not yet available in the city’s master address database. For example, addresses for new buildings, newly renovated properties, or parcels that have been split into condominiums may not yet be entered in the database.

If you have trouble finding an address that you are confident is correct, please contact [email protected] to report the problem.

Known Problems with Some Street Names

There are some known issues with the current version of the address search service. Plans are underway to correct many of these issues in the coming months.

Streets that have "directions" as part of their name

To find addresses on streets that start with a direction (i.e., "West River River Parkway") enter the house number then the directional name of the street. (i.e, "100 West"). Don’t enter any more of the address than this, and the street you seek will appear on the address results list.

The following streets must be entered this way:

Streets where the system only "knows" an abbreviation

The current data set for addresses contains two street names that are abbreviated. The following streets must be entered exactly as they appear below:

Streets that contain the word "Saint"

For all streets that contain the word "Saint" (except St Anthony Pkwy, as noted above) the word "Saint" must be spelled out in the when entering the address.
