Police officer additional benefits
Special duty time is when an employee is excused from regular duties to perform special activities.
Special duty may be for all or part of a workday.
Health Club Membership
All eligible police officers receive an individual membership at Lifetime Fitness paid for by the city.
Officers may choose an alternate health club from a list of eligible health clubs and the city will pay dues equal to the amount of Lifetime Fitness.
Newly hired officers are eligible for membership upon completion of their training.
Longevity pay is an hourly salary increase based on years of service to the MPD. At the beginning of the eighth year of service, police officers qualify for longevity pay.
Off-Duty (Outside) Employment
Police officers can receive approval to take off-duty uniform jobs.
Recruit/Cadet officers are generally prohibited from off-duty employment while attending the Police Academy.

Shift Differential Pay
Police officers who work a scheduled shift in which a majority of the work hours fall between the hours of 6:00pm and 6:00am are paid a shift differential based on the current labor contract.
Uniform Reimbursement Allowance
MPD Officers are entitled to reimbursement for the purchase price of uniforms and equipment as determined by contract negotiations.
