Eligible Liberian citizens may apply for permanent resident status in the US
On December 20, 2019 the Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act (LRIF) was signed into law. This provision permits certain citizens of Liberia to immediately file applications for permanent residence in the United States. The passage of this measure was the result of decades of advocacy, as described in this recent CBS news story.
Eligible applicants must apply within 1 year of the law's enactment, or by December 20, 2020.
More information about this Act is on the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota's LRIF page as well as the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) LRIF webpage.
