Prevention and Healthy Living
The Minneapolis Healthy Living Initiative works with partners in schools, neighborhoods, worksites, and clinics to make sustainable, community-driven changes that help everyone eat healthy, be active, and live tobacco free. Our efforts are focused on those who experience major obstacles to health due to race, ethnicity, age or socioeconomic status.
About Healthy Living
The Minneapolis Health Department’s Healthy Living Initiative has received funding from the MN Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) to work closely with communities, workplaces, schools and health care to increase opportunities for active living, healthy eating and avoiding commercial tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. The Healthy Living Initiative also works directly on supporting individuals with diabetes and hypertension through funding from Merck and the Minnesota Department of Health’s 1817 program
Place based strategies were developed based on recommendations and priorities provided by community members, partners, and the department’s Community Leadership Team.
