Minneapolis Health Department
The Minneapolis Health Department provides a diverse range of services as it carries out its mission to improve the quality of life for all people in the city by protecting the environment, preventing disease and injury, promoting healthy behaviors, and creating a city that is a healthy place to live, work, and play.
Our jurisdiction includes Minneapolis residents, commuters, guests, and visitors.
The Health Department is one of 10 charter departments established in the City Charter in 1869.
- In 2013, the department was one of six U.S. communities to receive the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize
- In 2015, the department became a member of the Big Cities Health Coalition, a forum for the leaders of America's largest metropolitan health departments. www.bigcitieshealth.org
- In 2016, the department earned national accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board. www.phaboard.org
- And in 2017, the department was one of three to earn the Health Means Business Healthy 10 award in the category of Healthy Environment.
