Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB)
The Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB) is one of Minnesota's 16 local workforce boards, designated by the Governor under authorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014, which provides policy and program guidance for all workforce development activities under WIOA.
The MWDB guides the design of local workforce development programming in the City of Minneapolis, including operational oversight of the CareerForce locations in North and South Minneapolis. A top priority of the Board is to create equitable opportunities and economic inclusion for all Minneapolis residents thorough workforce development services such as career exposure, training, and job placement supports. Programming includes summer youth internships, employment and education support to youth and young adults, adult career pathway training, and services for workers laid off through no fault of their own. Our work prioritizes high-demand occupations with family-sustaining wages in the metro area, with deliberate and intentional connection to regional employers looking to recruit and retain a competitive workforce.
The MWDB comprises 21 members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council to serve three-year terms. The Board elects its Chair, who must represent the private sector. Board members must be City residents; however, the residency requirement may be waived for representatives of organizations that pay property taxes to the City of Minneapolis.
