Civil Service Commission Vacancy
The Civil Service was created by Minneapolis Charter, Chapter 19; Chapter 3, Sec. 4, Amendment No. 114 to ensure that a fair and effective merit-based system of personnel administration, as provided in the City Charter, is carried out. To hire, promote and retain the most qualified persons for the City’s classified positions, in a way that is efficient and legal. To maintain an efficient workforce through human resource support services to all City departments. To fairly and effectively classify jobs based on their job-related contribution to the goals of the City. To respond to requests for information regarding personnel policies and practices in the City.

There is currently one (1) vacancy, term start date March 1, 2021. The Mayor nominates individuals to be appointed by the Executive Committee.

Requirements:
Commissioners serve staggered three-year terms beginning March 1. Commissioners shall not be eligible to apply for any position in the classified service during their term in office. Commissioners, before entering upon duties of office, shall subscribe and file with the City Clerk an oath for the faithful discharge of duties. The Executive Committee is subject to the rules and procedures of the City Council. In the case of recommendation for appointment, such procedures may not impose a limitation on the candidates to be considered by the Executive Committee. City residency is required
Selection Process:
Applications are forwarded from the City Clerk to the Chief Human Resources Officer. Applications are then forwarded to the Executive Committee and the Mayor for review and recommendation. Appointments shall be made only after a public hearing by the Ways and Means/Budget Committee for which adequate notice has been provided and then to the full City Council for final confirmation.
Note:
Meetings generally take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for approximately two hours. Special meetings may be scheduled each year. Commissioners receive $1,500 per annum.
