37th Ave NE Reconstruction
In 2023, the Minneapolis Public Works Department plans to reconstruct 1.0 mile of 37th Ave NE between Central Ave and Stinson Blvd. Reconstruction projects include complete replacement of the street infrastructure including pavement, curb and gutter. Sidewalks and boulevard are assessed and are often included in the street reconstruction as well. Street reconstruction provides an opportunity incorporate safety improvements, greening and other enhancements.
The goals of this project include:
- Improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and access
- Provide transportation investment and benefit in a community that is above the regional average for population in poverty or population of color
- Support transit service in the area
- Improve access to businesses and connect freight corridors
- Explore green infrastructure to collect and treat stormwater runoff

Heights, Saint Anthony and other project partners on a
regional solicitation application.
The project was added to City of Minneapolis 5-year Capital
Fall and winter 2020/2021

This segment of 37th Ave NE is a minor arterial street serving the Waite Park neighborhood of Minneapolis, Columbia Heights and Saint Anthony. The adjacent land use is primarily residential in character, with commercial buildings at major intersections.
