Project status

Project Status: Engagement

Lyndale Ave N has been identified as a High Injury Street in the City's Vision Zero Action Plan. This project aims to address safety concerns along Lyndale Ave N between Plymouth Ave N and 21st Ave N, including the #1 highest crash intersection in the city - W Broadway Ave. This portion of Lyndale Ave N is currently a four-lane undivided street, a layout that has particular safety challenges. This project will implement quick, inexpensive solutions to lower vehicle speeds, improve pedestrian safety, and help us reach our Vision Zero goal to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on our streets.

Proposed Improvements

The factors considered to develop the proposed Lyndale Ave N layout include:

The City of Minneapolis will change this part of Lyndale Avenue North from a four-lane undivided street to a three-lane street with one lane in each direction and a turn lane in the center with buffered bike lanes on both sides.

This changeover from a four-lane to a three-lane street will help slow vehicle speeds in this area. It will also create shorter pedestrian crossings at intersections and provide left turn only lanes at intersections to help reduce unexpected vehicle movements.

This project would cause the removal of off-peak parking spaces on Lyndale. This parking is generally underused in its current state.LyndaleAveN Proposed Section
