Project description
This project is a bridge improvement project. Improvements include replacing the deck, beams, and approach panels. Additional pavement on both ends of the bridge may be milled and overlaid. No work is planned on the stone façade.

The project is located on 12th Ave S from E Minnehaha Pkwy to 50th St E, over Minnehaha Creek.
Construction date
This project is scheduled to begin on May 4, 2020.
July 30, 2020 update: Project has been completed.
Traffic impact
The bridge will be closed to through traffic during these work activities. Minnehaha Creek will be closed at times to canoes, kayaks, tubing, etc, as required for safety reasons during construction activities, and a portage will be provided.

The bridge is located on 11th Ave S over 3rd and 4th St S, in the Downtown East neighborhood. The 2019 work will consist of replacing the bearings on the bridge and making repairs to the center pier cap. The 2020 work will consist of painting the beams of the bridge.
Construction Schedule
Painting of the bridge beams is scheduled to begin in August of 2020. Anticipated duration is one weekend.
Traffic Impact
For 2020 work, 11th Ave S will be open and available for normal use for the duration of the project. It is anticipated that pedestrian and vehicle access will be maintained. 3rd and 4th St S will be closed and detoured during the project.

Background
The 11th Ave S bridge was constructed in 1969. The 2019 work will replace the bearings on the bridge, which are corroded. This improvement will allow the bridge to move properly with changes in temperature. The work will also make repairs to the center pier cap. There are numerous utilities that are located on this bridge that will require being supported during these work activities. The 2020 work will paint the beams supporting the bridge deck.
