Industrial Boulevard Shared Use Trail
Public Works has identified a shared use trail connecting planned shared use trails on Broadway St NE and Industrial Blvd. The objective of this project is to connect the planned improvements for a continuous facility from Ridgway Parkway to Stinson Blvd NE.
Project Status
Project Scope
The proposed project consists of a new off-street multi-use trail on the west side of Industrial Boulevard extending from the south side of I-35W to Broadway Street Northeast. The elements proposed to be included as part of the project includes a new curb-level multi-use trail, ADA compliant curb ramps, curb/gutter, and utility improvements. The project will also include pedestrian scale parkway lighting, planted trees within the boulevard where feasible, signage, and pavement markings. Public Works is partnering with Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (Park Board) to fund the project, with construction anticipated in 2019.
The project area is approximately 0.12 miles in length and currently consists of three southbound travel lanes, a center median, two northbound travel lanes, and no sidewalk within a 100-ft right-of-way. The adjacent land uses to the west side of the project area include a hotel and office space with driveways facing Industrial Boulevard.
Project Details
The project layout was approved by the Transportation and Public Works Committee on November 27, 2018. The project is now in the design phase, and anticipated to be built during the 2019 construction season.
Progress
Most of the bike trail, stormwater, paving, curb and gutter, and sidewalk work was completed in 2019. Lighting and site restoration work will be completed in 2020.
Sod will be placed and trees planted in Spring of 2020.
Traffic Impact
For the most part, southbound Industrial Boulevard will be a single lane. There will be a closure with a detour in place for a weekend in September, to install storm sewer. A detour will be in place.
There will be times during construction that northbound Industrial Blvd will be a single lane. This is to make pedestrian ramp upgrades at the Godward St SE intersection.
