and 35th St E, from East of Hiawatha Ave to Dight Ave
Description
In 2020, the City of Minneapolis will reconstruct short segments of 33rd St E and of 35th St E near the railroad corridor east of Hiawatha Ave. A reconstruction project typically includes a new road surface, sub-base, curbs, sidewalk, boulevard space and utilities as needed. The City right of way on both streets is 60 feet in width. The street is in poor condition and sidewalks are narrow with some obstructions within the pedestrian access route.

Construction of 35th St E will begin August 5, 2020.
Construction of 33rd St E will begin August 19, 2020.

Planning Phase Meeting
Public Works staff attended the City's Pedestrian Advisory Committee on June 21st, 2018 to introduce the project and answer any initial questions.
Public Works staff attended a Longfellow Neighborhood meeting on July 10th, 2018 to introduce the project and answer any initial questions. The meeting was held at Longfellow Recreation Center, 3435 36th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406 at 7:30pm.
Public Works staff attended a Longfellow Neighborhood meeting on Tuesday October 2nd, 2018 to solicit feedback on the layout options that are currently under consideration. That meeting was held at Longfellow Recreation Center, 3435 36th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406 at 7:30pm. Notifications were mailed to property owners within the vicinity of the project corridor.
Project staff have also met with adjacent property owners and railroad representatives to discuss access and operational considerations, and to solicit input on the layout options.
Public Works staff attended the City's Pedestrian Advisory Committee on October 18th, 2018 to gather input on the project layout.

The Construction of 33rd St E will resume Monday March 30th, 2020, starting with the installation of sidewalk between Minnehaha Ave and Hiawatha Ave. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the parties below.

The final staff-recommended layout has been developed with consideration for the feedback received at the meetings described above.
33rd St E
The preliminary layout options demonstrate potential design changes that are being explored with the reconstruction project. Staff are currently soliciting feedback on these layout options; this feedback will be considered when developing a final recommended layout this fall. The final recommended layout might take from aspects of either layout option.

35th St E
The scope of work along 35th St E is limited to the rail crossings and areas immediately adjacent. The goal with this layout is to provide improved pedestrian facilities and street condition at the rail crossing.
