Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC)
The Heritage Preservation Commission is established pursuant to the authority granted by Minnesota Statutes sections 138.71 through 138.75, Minnesota Historic District Act of 1971, and Minnesota Statutes section 471.193, Municipal Heritage Preservation. The commission shall perform its duties and exercise its powers as provided within the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances, Title 23, Chapter 599.
Seat 5: Term beginning January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2021.
Seats 7, 8, and 9: Terms beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2023.
Deadline: Applications will be received until November 1, 2020.
Applicant must have knowledge of historic preservation, reside in a landmark property or in a historic district, or be a registered architect.

You can apply on your own behalf, nominate others for consideration, or inform the City Clerk's Office of someone to whom you'd like application materials to be sent.
The overall commission consists of 10 members, each of whom must reside in Minneapolis. Members shall be persons with demonstrated interest, knowledge, ability or expertise in historic preservation, neighborhood revitalization, archaeology, urban planning, history or architecture. Of the 10 seats on the commission, one is an appointment made by the mayor and 9 are appointments made by the City Council. If available, at least 2 appointees shall be registered architects, at least 1 shall be a licensed real estate agent or appraiser, at least 1 shall reside in or own a landmark or a property within an historic district, and if available at least 1 shall be a member of the Hennepin County historical society. At this time, there is a particular need for someone who resides in a landmark property or in a historic district.
Applicants for appointment to the commission will be interviewed by a committee including a representative of the planning director and at least 1 current member of the commission. The interview committee recommends applicants to the chair of Zoning & Planning for recommendation to the full City Council.
Meetings of the Heritage Preservation Commission are held on two (2) Tuesdays a month at 4:30 p.m. in Room 317 City Hall. Occasionally meetings are held at other locations in the City outside of City Hall. Total expected commitment for commissioners is 10-20 hours per month. All commissioners serve for a term of three years. Current appointees may seek reappointment to a subsequent three-year term for consideration by the City Council. All commissioners continue in office until their successors are appointed.
Members receive $50 for each meeting they attend, not to exceed one meeting on any given day or 4 per month. Parking and transit vouchers are provided. The commission meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities.
