Minneapolis Workforce Development Board
The Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB) is one of Minnesota's 16 local workforce boards, designated by the Governor under authorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014, which provides policy and program guidance for all workforce development activities under WIOA. The MWDB guides the design of local workforce development in the City of Minneapolis, including operational oversight of CareerForce locations in North and South Minneapolis, and the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center. Priorities include pathways initiatives in youth internships, healthcare, information technology, and place-based strategies. In addition, MWDB seeks to increase awareness of high-demand occupations and to connect employers with resources to recruit and retain a competitive workforce.
A top priority of the Board is to create equitable opportunities and economic inclusion for all Minneapolis residents thorough workforce development services such as career exposure, training, and job placement supports. Programming includes summer youth internships, employment and education support to youth and young adults, adult career pathway training, and services for workers laid off through no fault of their own. Our work prioritizes high-demand occupations with family-sustaining wages in the metro area, with deliberate and intentional connection to regional employers looking to recruit and retain a competitive workforce. The MWDB comprises 21 members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the city council to serve three-year terms. The Board elects its Chair, who must represent the private sector. Members are representatives from business, the workforce labor organization, the workforce joint labor-management, representatives from one of the following groups: Labor; Apprenticeship; Community Based Organization addressing barriers to employment, or an organization providing employment, training, or education services for youth; Higher education institution; provider of Adult Education and Literacy Activities under Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II; economic and community development organization; and an entity providing programs carried out under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 representative
Seats 2, 4, 5, 9 - 13, 15 - 17 and 20: Terms beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2023.
Seat 18: Unexpired term beginning July 1, 2018, and ending June 30, 2021.
Deadline: Applications will be received until November 1, 2020.
Board members must be City residents; however, the residency requirement may be waived for representative of organizations that pay property taxes to the City of Minneapolis.

Interested individuals can apply on their own behalf, nominate others for consideration, or inform the City Clerk's Office of someone to whom they would like application materials to be sent.
Applications are reviewed and selected by the Mayor and reviewed by the Economic Development and Regulatory Services Committee for recommendation to the full City Council.
Meetings are typically held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday of the odd months at 8:00 a.m. The location of meetings varies. The Board meeting locations are accessible to persons with disabilities. There is no compensation for attending meetings.
