Project Overview
In 2017, Minneapolis Public Works plans to sealcoat 60th St E between Chicago Ave S and Bloomington Ave S. This segment of 60th St E is identified in the Minneapolis Bicycle Master Plan and the sealcoat project provides a logical time to implement the planned bikeway. A bikeway on 60th St E would connect to existing bike facilities on Chicago Ave S, 12th Ave S and Bloomington Ave S. It would also directly connect to the Intercity trail, which runs from West Lake Nokomis Parkway down into Richfield.
Parking Changes are Proposed
There is currently parking on both sides of 60th St E, though initial parking counts reveal that the parking is underutilized along the majority of the corridor. In order to install dedicated bike lanes parking must be removed on both sides of the street. Existing parking demand along the corridor can be accommodated nearby along the adjoining north/south streets.
